Frequently Asked Questions About Dakota Construction

GENERAL INFORMATION

What areas do you serve?

We serve homeowners throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Portland, Salem, Eugene, Corvallis, and surrounding communities. Not sure if we cover your area? Give us a call and we'll let you know.

Are you a local company?

Yes! Dakota Construction is a family-owned business that has been serving Pacific Northwest homeowners for over 30 years. When you call us, you talk to someone who actually works here — not a call center or franchise.

Do you offer free estimates?

Absolutely. We offer free, no-pressure estimates on all of our services. One of our experienced team members will walk your property, assess your needs, and provide a clear, detailed quote.

How do I get started?

Simply give us a call or fill out the contact form on our website. We'll schedule a convenient time to come out, take a look, and walk you through your options.

ROOFING

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most residential roof replacements are completed in one to two days, depending on the size and complexity of your roof. We work efficiently and always clean up thoroughly before we leave.

Do you handle storm damage and insurance claims?

Yes. We have extensive experience working with homeowners through the insurance claims process. We can inspect your roof for storm damage, document our findings, and work directly with your adjuster to help make the process as smooth as possible.

What roofing materials do you recommend for the Pacific Northwest?

For our climate, we typically recommend architectural shingles from trusted manufacturers like GAF and Owens Corning. They're designed to handle heavy rain, wind, and moss — all common challenges in Oregon and Washington. Metal roofing is also a fantastic option for homeowners in storm or fire prone areas.

Do you offer warranties?

Yes. We offer both manufacturer warranties on materials and workmanship warranties on our installations. We'll walk you through exactly what's covered before any work begins.

SIDING

What siding options do you offer?

We install a variety of siding materials including fiber cement and engineered wood. Each has its own advantages in terms of durability, aesthetics, and cost — we'll help you find the best fit for your home and budget.

How long does siding installation take?

Project timelines vary depending on the size of your home and the material chosen, but most siding projects are completed within a few days to a week or two depending on the size and complexity of your project. This does not include time to paint the new siding.

Will new siding help with energy efficiency?

Yes. Modern siding materials, especially when installed with proper insulation, can noticeably improve your home's thermal performance and reduce heating and cooling costs.

WINDOWS & DOORS

How do I know if my windows need replacing?

Common signs include drafts near the frame, condensation between the panes, difficulty opening or closing, or noticeably higher energy bills. If you're unsure, we're happy to take a look during a free estimate.

What brands of windows do you install?

We work with high-quality, energy-efficient window brands suited for the Pacific Northwest's climate. We'll recommend options based on your home's style, your budget, and your energy goals.

Can a new front door really improve energy efficiency?

Absolutely. Older doors often have poor seals and minimal insulation. A modern entry door can significantly reduce drafts, improve security, and lower your energy costs — while giving your home a fresh look.

GUTTERS

Why are gutters so important in Oregon?

Oregon's rainfall is relentless for much of the year. Without functioning gutters, water can damage your foundation, siding, landscaping, and even your roof over time. Properly installed gutters are one of the best investments you can make in your home's long-term health.

What's the difference between seamless and sectional gutters?

Seamless gutters are custom-cut to fit your home in one continuous piece, which means fewer joints and far less chance of leaking. Sectional gutters are made of pre-cut pieces joined together and are more prone to leaks over time. We only install seamless gutters for the best long-term performance.

How often should gutters be cleaned or inspected?

We recommend cleaning and inspecting your gutters at least twice a year — once in the spring and once in the fall after the leaves have dropped to ensure best performance during the wettest months when water damage is most likely to occur.

FINANCING & SCHEDULING

Do you offer financing options?

Yes. We understand that exterior remodeling is a significant investment, and we offer financing options to help make your project more manageable. Ask us about current financing plans during your free estimate.

How far out are you scheduling?

Scheduling varies depending on the time of year and project type. We recommend reaching out as early as possible, especially heading into summer and fall when demand for roofing and gutter work picks up. Contact us and we'll give you a timeline based on the current work schedule.

What should I expect on the day of my project?

Our crew will arrive on time, respect your property, and keep the work area clean throughout the project. We'll walk you through what was completed when the job is done and make sure you're completely satisfied before we leave.
